Local Food Roadshow

diary

ISEC's Local Food Roadshow on tour throughout the UK in May 2008! See
ISEC's events calendar for dates and locations

ISEC is bringing the local food message directly to the public with our innovative Local Food Roadshows.

Food security is undeniably emerging as one of the paramount concerns of the 21st century. Peak-oil, population pressure, biofuels and the impacts of a changing climate have all emerged relatively recently to compound the crisis. As we enter the age of post peak-oil agriculture the need has never been greater for localised alternatives to global food systems.

Using a narrated slide show, an exhibition of twenty full-size, full-colour posters, and resource and action packets, the Roadshow details the hidden costs of global food and the many benefits of more diversified, localised food systems. It describes how we came to depend on global food, and outlines the steps needed to shift back towards local food - both at home and around the world.

Roadshow presentations are available at nominal cost to environmental groups, food safety activists, farm organisations, local government bodies, civic organisations, church groups, schools and universities, and other community bodies.

We are also making the poster sets available on a rental basis for such venues as farmers' markets and conference exhibition spaces, where presenting the slide show is not possible. A set of reduced A-4 posters is also available for individual use.

Although most Local Food Roadshows have been presented by ISEC staff, we are also running training workshops to enable committed volunteers to present the Roadshow in their own communities.

Contact us if you are interested in hosting a Roadshow event, displaying the Local Food posters in your community, or attending a training workshop. And check the events diary for upcoming Roadshow presentations near you.
